RONNIE CHILDRESS

Ronnie Childress, 68, of  Roundhill, Ky., passed away Friday, March 20, 2015 at  his residence. He was born in Morgantown, Ky. on  Jan. 10, 1947 to the late Chester "Check" and Eurie Lindsey Childress.  Mr. Childress was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church and was retired from Louisville Gas and Electric where he worked as a service inspector. He was an Army Veteran who served in Korea.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Ida Alford Childress.

He  is survived by one daughter Penny Childress of Roundhill; three sons, Patrick Childress of Leitchfield and James Childress and Jason Childress both of Louisville;  three step children Debbie Geary, Janette Burton and husband Jimmy all of Morgantown and Scott Boone and wife Sherry of Bowling Green;  one granddaughter Penny Childress of Louisville; three sisters Margie Flener and husband Don of Louisville, Sue Holland of Morgantown and Lois Overstreet and husband Glenn of Morgantown; two brothers Bobby Childress and wife Betty of Louisville and Latney Childress of Morgantown; several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral Service will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Monday, March 23, 2015 at 1:00pm with Bro. Gary Embry officiating.  Burial will follow in the Oak Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, March 22, 2015 from 5pm-8pm and 8am until time of service at Smith Funeral Home, Morgantown, Ky.

 

HENRY RAY PHELPS

 Henry Ray Phelps, 73, of  Morgantown, Ky., passed away Thursday, March 19, 2015 at the Medical Center in Bowling Green, Ky.   He was born in Dunbar, Ky. on  March 23, 1941. to the late the  William Henry and Eula Kitchens Phelps.  Mr. Phelps was a member of Shiloh Church of Christ and was retired from the Medical Center where he was a cook.  He at one time worked at Miller's Bottle Gas, Al Green Enterprises at Ford Motor Company, owned Henry's Pizza where he made the most delicious pizza's.  His hobbies included hunting, fishing, taking care of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Ruth Mayhugh, daughter Teresa Phelps and son in law Marion Lewellyn.
 
He  is survived by his wife of 56 years Betty Phelps of Morgantown; three daughters Laquita Renfrow and husband Faron, Vanessa Evans both of Morgantown and Cynthia Lewellyn of Greensburg, In.; two sons Damon Phelps and wife Emma and Kevin Phelps and wife Darlene both of Morgantown; four sisters Dorothy Britt,  Janet Lewellyn both of Morgantown , Pat Cross and Nancy Phelps both of Indiana; 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
 
Funeral Service will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at 12:00pm
with Bro. Woody Moore officiating.  Burial will follow in the Shiloh Church of Christ Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, March 22, 2015 from 5:00 to 9:00pm, Monday, March 23 10am to 9pm and Tuesday 8am  until  time of service at Smith Funeral Home, Morgantown, Ky.

 

VIOLET WHITE GODSEY

Violet White Godsey, 83, of  Morgantown, Ky., passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at   her  Residence. She was born in Morgantown, Ky.,  September  26, 1932  to the late Jesse and Myrtle Daughtery White.  Mrs. Godsey  was a member of the New Liberty Missionary Baptist Church,  retired factory worker and volunteered for the Gilstrap Community Center. Violet loved taking care of children and cooking for her family and friends.    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Rex Godsey, two brothers Charles L. & Dewell White.
 
She is survived by one Sister Bernice Sublett and husband Eddie of Gilstrap; one Brother David White and wife Imogene of Gilstrap; Sister's-In-Law Charlotte White of Cromwell, Betty White of Dexterville; Several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
 
Funeral Service will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Friday, March 20, 2015 at 12:00 pm
with Bro.Geoffery Johnson, Bro. Gene Gardner and Bro. Bob Ward officiating.  Burial will follow in the New Liberty Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, March 19, 2015 from 4:00 pm to 8pm and Friday 9am until time of service at Smith Funeral Home, Morgantown, Ky. 

 

 

CHESTER BELL PEAY

Chester Bell Peay, 73, of  Rochester, Ky. passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville, Tenn. Chester was born July 15, 1941  in Butler Co., Ky. to the late Raymond and Sally Foster Peay.  He was a United States Army Veteran and a retired Mechanic , Mr. Peay was a member of New Midway Baptist Church. He was  preceded  in death by his parents Raymond and Sally; one sister Faye Dean Peay
 
Mr. Peay is survived by his wife of 47 years Linda Southerland Peay of Rochester, Ky.
two daughters: Tammie Adkins and husband Eric of Morgantown, Theresa Johnson and  husband Dewayne of Rochester; three granddaughters: Mattea Johnson of Rochester, Ky. Haley and Laney Beth Adkins of  Morgantown; one great-grandson, Noah Ogles; one sister, Darlene Beliles and husband Richard of Rochester, Ky.
 
Funeral Service will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Saturday, March 14 at 2 pm with Bro. Todd Phelps officiating.  Burial will follow in the Rochester Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be Friday, March 13 from 4 until 9 pm and Saturday March 14, from 8 am until time of service at Smith Funeral Home.

JAMES LLOYD ASKEW

James Lloyd Askew, 88, of  Morgantown, Ky., passed away Monday, March 9, 2015 at   Woodcrest at Blakeford in Nashville, Tn. He was born in Morgantown, Ky. on  August  24, 1926  to the late Joe and Mae Askew.  Mr. Askew was a Church of Christ Minister.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Lloyd Askew and one sister Ruth Askew Fuller.
 
He  is survived by his wife of 67 years Evalee Mefford Askew, one daughter Kathy Bates and husband Terry, Daughter-In-Law Barbara Askew and two grandsons; Jordan and Brady Bates; one brother Paul Askew.
 
Funeral Service will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Sunday, March 22, 2015 at 2:30pm
with Bro. Daniel Askew officiating.  Burial will follow in the Quality/Forgytown Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, March 22, 2015 from 12:30 pm until time of service at Smith Funeral Home, Morgantown, Ky.

 

OLIVER FORSYTHE

Oliver Forsythe, 86, of  Morgantown, Ky. passed away Monday, March 9, 2015 at the Morgantown Care and Rehab Center.  Oliver was born February 3, 1929  in Butler Co., Ky. to the late Orville M.  and Nona Brown Forsythe. He retired from the Inland Steel Company after 37 years. He enjoyed watching wrestling and going fishing. He was  preceded  in death by his parents, Orville and Nona Forsythe and wife Glodean Burden Forsythe.
 
Mr. Forsythe is survived by his sister Helen Morgan of Bowling Green; one niece Debbie Herrman and husband Richard of Bowling Green; one great niece Selena Herrman of Bowling Green; and great-great niece Addison Herrman of Bowling Green.
 
Funeral Service will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 11 at 1 pm with Bro. Derek Cain officiating.  Burial will follow in the Rochester Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 11, 2015 from 9:30 until the time of service at Smith Funeral Home.

 

WANDA JEAN HARRAL

Wanda Jean Harral, 59, of  Morgantown, Ky. passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at her residence.  Jeannie was born August 29, 1955  in Butler Co., Ky. to the late Fonzo and Bessie Clark Harral.  She was a member of Aberdeen Baptist Church, loved shopping at yard sales, vintage stores and the Morgantown Mission, as she had a passion for vintage clothes and furniture.  She was a clerk at Kellwood Outlet for several years.  She was  preceded  in death by her parents and her lifelong companion Jerry Brantley.
 
Ms. Harral is survived by her brother Danny Harral of Morgantown and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was loved by all who knew her.
 
Funeral Service will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Saturday, March 7 at 1 pm with Bro. David Hocker officiating.  Burial will follow in the Aberdeen Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, March 6 from 4 to 9 pm and Saturday, March 7 from 8 am til time of service at Smith Funeral Home.

 

 

CHARLES M. MAUZY

 Charles M. Mauzy, 86, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2015 at Magnolia Village in Bowling Green, Kentucky surrounded by family at his bedside.
 
Charlie was born on July 21, 1928 in Morgantown, Kentucky to Golda Martin Threlkel and Allie Monroe Mauzy. He graduated from Butler County High School and attended Centre College before joining the Air Force where he served with pride in Europe during the Korean War.
 
Charlie returned to Morgantown where he worked for many years alongside his stepfather, Paul Threlkel, in the family business, Threlkel Truck and Tractor. He retired as Sales Manager at Corn’s Implement Service in Bowling Green, Kentucky and then owned and operated several businesses in Morgantown.
 
Charlie had a heart for people and for service. He served two terms on the Morgantown City Council, was a charter member of the United Methodist Men where he was a lifelong member, volunteered at Morgantown Rehabilitation and Care Center and the Morgantown Mission.
 
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Joyce Flener Mauzy, a daughter, Rhonda Hawkins of Bowling Green, Kentucky (fiancé Joe Hitchel) and a son, Charles Mauzy (Anne) of Louisville, Kentucky. He was a loving Papaw to his grandchildren, Christian Mauzy (fiancé Andrea Moser) of Louisville, Kentucky, and Katy Hawkins (fiancé C.W. Waters) and Dylan Hawkins and Lindsey Travis and two great granddaughters, all of Bowling Green, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his son, James Gregory Mauzy, his stepson, Gregory Lewis Jones and his sister, Ann Mauzy Roy.
 
The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 20, 2015 at Smith Funeral Home with Bro. Darrin Jones officiating.  Burial will follow in Hill Haven Memory Gardens. Visitation will take place at Smith Funeral Home, 403 N. Main St., Morgantown, Kentucky on Thursday, February 19th from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and 8 a.m. til time of service on Friday.

 

DONNIE BELLE KEEN DYE

Donnie Belle Keen Dye, 83, of  Louisville, Ky. passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at the Crestview Nursing Home in Shelbyville, Ky.  Donnie was born October. 18, 1931  in Butler Co., Ky. to the late Russell A. and Cora Lee Hatcher Keen .  She was a  retired employee from Phillip Morris and a member of  Ninth & O Baptist Church in Louisville.  She enjoyed quilting and playing card but most of all she was a loving and caring Mother and Grandmother .She preceded  in death by her parents, husband Maurice E. Dye and eight siblings.
 
Mrs. Dye  is survived by two sons Danny Dye and wife Judy of Sugar Grove, Ky., Gregory Dye of  Louisville, Ky.; one daughter Colleen Heflin and husband Wayne of Bagdad, Ky.; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers Gabe Keen and wife Shirley of  Sugar Grove, Ky.,  Wilbur Keen and wife Darlene of Corydon, Indiana; one sister Martha Franklin and husband Dale of Provo, Ky. and several nieces and nephews.
 
Funeral Service will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 2 p.m. with Bro. Philip Brown and Joshua Rucker. Burial will follow in the Cook Cemetery.. Visitation will be Friday, February. 6, 2015 from 11pm to 3 pm at  Ninth & O Baptist Church in Louisville, Ky. and from  6pm to 9pm at Smith Funeral Home in Morgantown and  Saturday from 8 a.m.-  until time of service at Smith Funeral Home, Morgantown, Ky.

 

 

BUNIE RAY MASON

Bunie Ray Mason, 88, of  Morgantown, Ky., passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at the  Joseph Eddie Ballard Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson, Ky.  He was born in Morgantown, Ky. on  July 8, 1926  to the late  Estill and Ophelia Proctor Mason.  Bunie was a retired machine operator, WWII Army Veteran and a member of  Sandy Creek Baptist Church.  Bunie  enjoyed fishing, gardening, canning and most of all spending time listening and talking  on his CB radio.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Willow Mason, sister Opalene Mason Dennis and the mother of his children Ellen Mason.
 
He is survived by three sons: Donald Ray Mason & wife Nina of Morgantown, Billy Wayne  Mason and wife Sandy of  Horse Branch, Ky, William Estil Mason and wife Tracy of Morgantown; two daughters Wilma Barrow and husband Allen of Morgantown, Donna Johnson and husband Joey of Greenville, Ky., 16 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren; one sister Martha Nell Woosley and husband Leonard of Morgantown.
 
Funeral Service will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 1pm
with Bro. Wayne Stewart officiating.  Burial will follow in Sandy Creek Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be Friday, January 30, 2015 from 3 pm to 8 pm and Saturday 8 am until  time of service at Smith Funeral Home, Morgantown, Ky.

 

 

BILLY HOWE

Billy Howe age 75, of  Morgantown, Ky. passed away Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville, Ky.  Billy was born in Muhlenberg County on May 25, 1939  to the late Zona Oliver Howe and Elizabeth Edwards Howe. He is preceded in death by his parents and wife; Patricia Ann Riley Howe.
 
Mr. Howe is survived by 1 son; Billy Jack Howe  and wife Jennifer of Fort Myers, Fl. Grand Daughter;  Krystal Howe. Grandson; Warren Howe both of Fort Myers, Fl. Sister and brother-in-law; Joy & Bob Sasher of Morgantown, formerly of Fort Myers, Fl. Billy was a Navy Veteran and a  member of the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church and occupied the same seat, on the same pew, every time he was in church.  Billy has an abundance of nephews and nieces as well as a host of friends.  In Lieu of flowers, family donation envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
 
Graveside Services will be held under the direction of Hodges Funeral Home in Fort Myers, Fl. on Saturday , January 31, 2015.  Burial will be held at the Lee Memorial Park in Fort Myers, Fl.

 

CODIE ELWOOD MINTON

Codie Elwood Minton, 65, of  Bloomington, In., formerly of Morgantown,  passed away Friday, January 16, 2015 at the IU Health Bloomington Hospital in Bloomington, In.  He was born in the Little Bend community of Butler Co. on  July 26, 1949  to the late Delbert and Agnes Embry Minton.  Codie was an escort for Otto Rone Trucking and a logger in South Hill for 15 years.  He served in Vietnam from 1967-1970.  He enjoyed fishing, camping and mushroom hunting.   He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Brodie Minton and nephew Rubin Minton.
 
Mr. Minton is survived by six children, Lita Minton of Elma, Washington; Elwood, Casey, Rudy, Jessie and Bobbie Minton all of Franklin, In.; four grandchildren all of Elma, Washington;  one brother, Andy Minton of Bloomington, In.; three sisters Phyllis Smith of Morgantown, Nancy Rogers (Don)  and Vicky Campbell both of Bloomington, In. and several nieces and nephews with two special nieces Jo Hardin and Anna Johnson (Dustin) both of Morgantown.
 
Funeral Service will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Monday, January 19, 2015 at 2 pm.  Burial will follow in the Wade Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, January 19, 2015
from 10 am until  time of service at Smith Funeral Home, Morgantown, Ky.

 

 

JOHN DOUGLAS HUNT

John Douglas Hunt, 72, of  Morgantown, Ky. passed away Monday, Jan. 12, 2015 at his Residence.  John was born December 20, 1942  in Butler Co., Ky. to the late Karl Douglas and Amy Hammers Hunt. He was a general maintenance worker and enjoyed taking care of  his lawn and garden.   He was  preceded  in death by his parents, brothers Delbert, Hugh, Thomas and Max Hunt; sister Patty Hunt Gravil.
 
Mr. Hunt is survived by wife Barbara Kay Hunt of Morgantown; daughter Lisa Miller and husband Billy of Morgantown; son Timmy Hunt of Morgantown; brother Herman Hunt of Indiana; sisters Florence Huff of Utica, Ky., Nora Nell Williams of  Huntsville, Ky, Jewel Hunt of  Morgantown and Gwen Mefford of Huntsville, Ky.; grandchildren Joshua Daniel Miller of Murfreesboro, Tn., Michael Ryan Miller of Bowling Green, Ky.
 
 Cremation was chosen,  no services or visitation will be held.  Under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Morgantown, Ky.

 

SAMUEL RICHARD GRAVES

Samuel Richard Graves, 31, of Morgantown, Ky. passed away Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015 in Louisville, Ky.  Samuel was born March 11, 1983  in Butler Co., Ky. to the late Samuel Perry Graves and Anna Hardin McIntyre who survives.  He was a construction worker and of the Baptist faith. Samuel loved the outdoors, playing basketball, loved to make people laugh and most of all loved his family.  He was  preceded  in death by his father Samuel Perry Graves and grandmother Angie Christine Graves.
 
Mr. Graves is survived by one son Jacob Graves of Louisville, Ky.; mother Anna Hardin McIntyre and step-father Ray McIntyre of Morgantown; two sisters Angela Graves of Morgantown, Nicole Zurkuhlen and husband Chris of Morgantown; Grandmother Joann Samuels of Morgantown; three nieces Christina Hord of Morgantown, Jamie Hord of Morgantown, Alyssa Zurkuhlen of Morgantown; one nephew Michael Melton of Morgantown; many aunts and uncles.
 
Funeral Service will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Monday, Jan. 12, 2015 at 1 p.m. with Bro. Raliegh Blancett officiating.   Burial will follow in the Olaton Cemetery in Grayson Co, Ky. Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, 10:30am until time of service at Smith Funeral Home, Morgantown, Ky.

 

EVELYN IRENE JENKINS MOORE

 Evelyn Irene Jenkins Moore, 84, of  Hartford, Ky., passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at the  Heartford House in Owensboro, Ky.  She was born in Morgantown, Ky. on  December 27, 1930  to the late Jackie and Lula Orange Jenkins.  Evelyn was a former employee of  Kane's Manufacturing, she worked as a jail matron for several years and  was a private caregiver.. She was a member of Caney Fork Presbyterian Church and The Ladies Auxiliary.  Evelyn loved to walk, work in her garden with  plants and flowers, she enjoyed watching the birds and cooking for her family and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents; ex-husband Oakland Moore; two daughters: Sandra Moore Stevens and Rhonda Moore.
 
She  is survived by her children: Gene Moore of Morgantown; Marilyn Moore Warren and husband Billy of Morgantown, Ky., Sharon Moore Stover  and husband Vic of Murray, Deborah F. Moore of Owensboro and  Michael Moore of Hartford; nine grandchildren: Terry Neal, Stacy, Steve, Brandon, Jackie, Ashley, Jeremy, Briley and Jess; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
 
Funeral Service will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 11am
with Bro. Scotty Flener officiating.  Burial will follow in the Caney Fork Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, January 9, 2015 from 5 pm to 8 pm and Saturday 9 am until  time of service at Smith Funeral Home, Morgantown, Ky.  

 

BETTY JEANNE DRAKE

Betty Jeanne Drake, 84, of  Morgantown, Ky. passed away Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015 at the Medical Center in Bowling Green.  Betty was born Sept. 10, 1930  in Butler Co., Ky. to the late Albert and Clemance Givens Smith.  She was a Homemaker and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.  She was a lifelong resident of Butler County and grew up in the community of Silver City.  Betty loved to garden and going to singings with Robert and Beulah Middleton.  She was  preceded  in death by her parents, husband Desper Drake, brothers Douglas, Rex and Johnny Smith and one grandson Seth Drake.
 
Mrs. Drake is survived by one daughter Pamela Drake Humes and husband Ronny of Franklin, Tn.; one son Mark Drake of Liberty Township, Oh.; two grandchildren, Laurel Groth and husband Wes of Franklin, Tn. and John Drake of Lexington; several nieces and nephews.
 
Funeral Service will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015 at 2 p.m. with Speaker Tommy Hines.  Burial will follow in the Hill Haven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 9, 2015 from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m.-  until time of service at Smith Funeral Home, Morgantown, Ky. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Morgantown Senior Center.

 

 

SUSAN BUNCH

Susan Beth Bunch, 55, of  Bowling Green, Ky., passed away Sunday, January 4, 2015 at her  residence.  She was born December 30, 1959  in Greenville, Ky.  to the late Joseph and Ella Holman Bunch.  Susan was a homemaker.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Ella "Tootie" Bunch.
 
She  is survived by Two sons: Cody Garner and wife Alaina of San Marcos, Tx.,  Clevie Garner and fiancé Codie Davis of Smiths Grove; Three grandchildren: Rager Lee Garner & Aliana Jo Garner of San Marcos, Tx. and  Georgia Marie Garner of Smiths Grove; Two sisters: Denise Brown and husband James Thomas of Quality and Martha Bunch of Shelbyville, Ky.
 
A Memorial Service will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 2pm
with Bro. Randy Burns officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, January 8, 2015 from 1 pm to time of service.

 

WALLACE "COY" McCOY

Wallace "Coy" McCoy, 78, of  Morgantown, Ky. passed away Sunday, January 4, 2015 at his residence  in Morgantown.  Coy was born August 29, 1936  in Butler Co., Ky. to the late Edward "Buster" Burton and Murnie Ann Brown McCoy . He retired from Holley Carburetor  and was a member of  Union Missionary Baptist Church.  He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and working on small engines.  He was  preceded  in death by his parents, four brothers R.C., Penn, Prentice and Paul McCoy. Mr. McCoy is survived by his loving wife  of 55 years Jerlene Proctor McCoy of Morgantown; two daughters Wanda Carroll and husband Tim of Morgantown, Vonda Barks and husband Paul of Morgantown; one son Kenny McCoy and wife Mykel of Morgantown. seven grandchildren: B.J. Carroll (Amanda), Jordy Carroll, Brian Carroll (Kelli), all of Morgantown,  Haley Selman (John) of Fort Hood, Tx. Christina Guengerich (Chase) of Evansville, In., John Barks and Riah Pendley of Morgantown. three great grandchildren: Addie, Capri, Remi; one brother Presley McCoy of Morgantown.  Funeral Service will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at 1 p.m.  with Bro. Russ Funk officiating.  Burial will follow in the Union Cemetery.
